On Monday, she got the call that they were being shut down. The last job I could find was being closed. It was a hospital, being a nurse, like I had always been. Being a nurse was all I wanted to be throughout my whole life, taking care of people was always a dream. Unfortunately, it was expected that the world would collapse eventually.

The last of my money would be all that I would have to live throughout my life. It was hard to make money nowadays, barely anyone or anything everywhere to make any form of money. All the greedy billionaires and trillionaires or whatever you would call them weren’t willing to share either. They really wanted to see the world burn, not that it was or anything. The day-to-day life in this economy was nothing better than sitting in your house 24 hours a day deciding what to do about food for the next week. The prices of everything nowadays were drastically different to those back in the day. It’s crazy to see how downhill we have gotten since I was young. Back when I was younger, everyday food items like bread would only cost around three dollars and forty-nine cents. That was 25 years ago, and since then, the prices have gone up over five times that. One lousy pack of bread today would rack you up $17.50, which was enough money to buy bread for three months back then.

It’s not all just complaining and whining about the current economy, as there is one thing that can overcome all of this bad, a nice vacation. It was the only way I would be able to forget about what was going on, and I knew I could put together the funds for a trip to a place I dreamed of going to ever since I was little, the Bahamas. Ever since I was young, I was told the Bahamas was the place to go, and from every photo I’ve looked at, I was convinced. I wanted to go there as soon as possible, so I looked online. It was hard to find any plane tickets, since mostly all of the planes were out of use. But eventually, I found one, scheduled for tomorrow. I was so excited to go that I instantly packed all of my things and went straight to bed.

When I woke up the next day, it felt like a dream. I rushed to get ready like I never have before. Within an instant, I was out the door on the way to the airport. When I had finally arrived, I really couldn’t find anyone else. It had almost felt abandoned, the ominous sounds of the escalator being operated with not a soul in sight, all the shops opened with a single cash operator in sight, what has happened to us? When I got to the gate there was finally a woman who greeted me with a polite and neat smile that I haven’t seen in so long. “May I have your boarding pass?” she asked gleefully. I handed her what looked like the first boarding pass ever, all crinkled and crumpled and nearly ripped at some parts, but she took it and scanned it without blinking twice. “Enjoy your flight now” she said. I briskly walked into the tunnel and boarded my flight.

When I boarded, there were only two other passengers. A tall skinny white guy who looked like he was in his twenties, with a pale blue tee shirt and some jeans. He had somewhat of a beard, but it really wasn’t noticeable from here. The second one being this old lady, with the average haircut you would see every television grandma have, with a colorful flower kind of shirt with what looked like gray sweatpants. I didn’t really bother much about that and took my seat and looked out the window, ready for the near 12-hour flight I had today. I closed my eyes to try and fall asleep like I used to back on planes when I was younger, and I must have been pretty tired because within no time I was out cold.
