On Monday, she got the call that they were being shut down. She didn’t know what she would do. Jaime had worked in a women’s health office for 20 years. It was a private practice that specialized in women’s healthcare. She was friends and had a genuine relationship with every worker and a majority of her patients. Jaime is the person that finds the good in every situation. If someone’s cup was half empty, she was determined to make it half full.
Her desire was to be the light for patients in need. Her private practice had given a way to create relationships with those families in need. Through this practice she has created a lifetime of friendships and connections. She helped people in times of need so that one day they could be better parents and community members. Just to put into words what she did for the people at her job, sometimes people had a baby that had died. This is a horrible thing to go through as a person who thought they were going to have a child. Jaime would go out of her way and without charging the family, she would make castings. Castings are where you take the molds of the parents, and baby’s hands. Then put them together and make an art piece for the parents to have. That way whenever they look at it, they have part of their baby still with them. She really did love to help her patience and support them through the highs, and especially when they needed someone in the lows.
Her office said in a month, they would be selling the practice and the new managers wouldn’t be continuing the practice that they had there. They were changing the business platform. Jaime wasn’t sure what to do. She had maintained her job at the local hospital while working at the private practice, just in case this day were to come to. However, she never dreamed it would happen. What a terrifying concept to think she would be working fulltime at the hospital. Big business didn’t treat their workers well, but she had no other choice. When the time came, she cleaned out her office, put away all of her belongings and packed them into her car. She would still see her work friends every now and then but because the practice was shutting down, her work family as she had known it would no longer be together. They all had to find new jobs.
Instead of sulking and taking a week or two off, she got right to work the next day at the hospital. After working there for multiple months, she realized that it was robbing her of her passion and knew she needed to make a change. She decided to do something about it. She applied for a loan and got it, then began to get the equipment and put together a team of solid co-workers. She was going to start her own business. Even though she had never run a business, Jaime was going to figure it out because she was determined. She still worked hard at the local hospital and did that for a couple days out of the week, but now she was starting to build her own business and started to create more opportunities for herself. Because Jaime wouldn’t give up and had great determination, she was able to keep her passion for a job she loved so dearly. She opened up her new practice and while continuing to work as a sonographer, she pursued her dream of helping people in a private setting where she could care for each individual patient. She and her team were able to meet their patients where they needed it the most.
