On Monday, she got the call that they were being shut down.
They closed the best theater in all of the town
The curtain was closed and the lights were turned off
The city had called and they weren’t being soft
The place she had stayed for all of her youth
No more tickets to be sold from that old ticket booth
The actors and actresses had all left the town
No one was left to wear that old broken crown

She walked through the place reminiscing of shows
Remembering the faces that filled all the rows
The memories of plays came back like a flood
Like the stain that was left when they used the fake blood
Or the time that she swung up high from a cable
And the mess that lay on the show’s famous prop table
She had loved that old theater with all of her heart
She hated to think it would get torn apart

She searched for a way to save the old theater
She asked and she asked but no one would hear her
The town had moved on, they didn’t much care
But what would she do, how much did she dare?

For weeks and weeks she pondered and planned
Hoping the town would give her a hand
She asked for the funds from the people in town
Hundreds of people, they all turned her down
She thought for a while until she reluctantly realized
Something she’d known so she was not so surprised
It wasn’t shut down just because of the cost
But for the love for the art that now seemed to be lost
