“Oh lord, I’ve had enough of these people out here.” This is the most common phrase that my best friend always says now that we have joined UCLA college. How is it possible that two messy and chaotic girls, like us, managed to arrive at college?

We have never tried to be good at school but cheering saved us. We are so thankful to the people who invented it, because we could not stare at some marvelously sweaty boys on a field on a random friday night if it wasn’t for this fantastic sport.

Fenty lip gloss, a Stanley, face paint, perfect hair and an amazing smile. That’s what Harper Thompson really is. She has always been the typical girl who loves boys and partying but most of all, our games. I love that she is so supportive and full of energy, it always makes me feel better.

There’s no way today we are going to our first college game and we are going to perform.
We are so excited about it.

‘What do you mean we should have done assignments for our course that are due today?’
‘Allison just told me that. I’ll just say something sentimental and emotional. You know Mr. Buzz, he likes when we speak about love like Shakespeare’.

Every game day, since the first year of high school, we had breakfast together and spoke about what’s going on in our lives. I would have been much happier if we had been assigned to the same dormitory so we could have spent all our time together but we just couldn’t decide. However, we still go everywhere together.

The game was crazy. Chaos. Media. Loud fans and lots of colours. UCLA against Penn University.

I loved it, it was nothing compared to my high school routines or teammates. We were so well prepared. We were on fire.

We did our opening routine perfectly. Only one problem, halfway through the music cut off.
For some seconds, everyone stared at us with only silence as a backdrop. My heart dropped, but Harper just smiled and shouted ‘Let’s go Bruins!’ and the crowd roared back. We kept going, louder and stronger.

That was the moment I realized: this wasn’t high school anymore. We had made it.
