They get more attention with negativity. “They get more attention with negativity.”

Crunch, Crunch, the tiny twigs broke as they stepped. The sun began to rise and the two brothers walked through the woods. The dew slowly vanished off of the wet ground, and with this so did their tracks. Not a smell, sound, or sign that they were out there. No deer could tell. They were that good, or at least one of them was. As they walked John, “the older of the two,”was stealthy, not making a sound. Step by step, it seemed like he planted his foot in the perfect spot every time. His younger brother on the other hand was the exact opposite. It was Jose’s first year of hunting. He didn’t know much. John only ever went out into the woods by himself, but today his mother had convinced him to bring his younger brother too. As they walked through the woods, negative thoughts ran through Jose’s mind. He just wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do. He did his best to keep quiet. Every time that he took a step though, the youngest just felt like he was doing it wrong.
They continued on through the woods. Crunch, crunch, then an abrupt stop! The oldest paused, he heard something. Off in the distance there was a big buck, rattling its antlers through the trees above! Jose was so focused on his feet, that he hadn’t even heard John stop, or the big buck that they were after. Bump! He was so busy looking down at his feet to make sure he wasn’t stepping on twigs, he ran right into the back of John! The oldest brother’s hands flew out to catch himself and the gun plopped on the ground making a loud sound. The Buck looked right at them! Blew. Then bolted away, rattling its antlers through the hanging trees above. John turned around, livid! He picked his younger brother up by his coat and forced him to go in front. They walked back to the house, stepped inside. Jose was furious with himself. John had been hunting this buck for two years and he had finally found it. The younger brother blew his chance. He was prepared for John to yell at him, his negative thoughts and overthinking had cost John’s chance.
Instead of yelling at him though, the older brother surprisingly said “sorry dude for not telling you how to act in the woods.” The youngest was shocked he didn’t know what to say. “Uh, was I loud?” said the youngest. The older brother just nodded. “But that okay, because I didn’t teach you how to walk in the woods, so how would you have known?” Said John. They spent the rest of the morning at the edge of the woods, working on foot placement and working from heel to toe. Slowly, trying their best to walk with soft feet, gently stepping on the leaves.
Jose felt so much better after that day. He thought “maybe John never gave me attention because it would always be negative, and this had filled my head with bad thoughts.” Now he was ready to go into the woods, and wasn’t worried about the negative thoughts that usually filled his head. This day he had made a big step, not only as a hunter but also as a brother.
