A Resounding Resilience
“It’s hard to impress me with chicken.”
“Put in some effort next time.”
The words resound relentlessly,
A tornado plows through my mind.
Night moves on without me,
As I sit by the window and gaze,
Fireflies hum and reflect on the glass.
Even in dark, they’re ablaze.
As morning breaks, so does silence,
The birds begin to tweet,
Our noisy city drowns them out;
They still sing their songs so sweet.
I stroll past a man outside a store,
With his guitar, he sits.
He smiles as he plays his tune
About hardship and misfits.
Our world is on fire from anger,
Misfortune, blame, and hate.
The spiral grows by day;
We cry that it’s too late.
But look at all the fireflies, who glow through night’s thick haze.
Remember all the birds that sing over the noisy trains.
Think about the man who sits outside the store.
We can persevere like them and many, many more.

Julia! I like how this poem talks about a bigger picture rather than just about how chicken is not always impressive to some people.

I enjoy how you mixed an everyday life with a reflection for hopefulness after the sad tone. As well as the rhyming in the poem.

I like how you emphasized the internal conflict and how the mind can often be a dangerous place but often a gift as well. Everyone is living their own life and it is often times that we only concentrate on our own.
