A person in the crowd screamed, “Oh lord, I’ve had enough of these people out here.” It was pure chaos: the poor man was on his knees begging for God’s forgiveness; a laden woman deliberately squeezed through the crowds, running toward her apartment. She held the grocery bag tight with 1 goal in her eyes. Unfortunately, the guard won’t allow her to go any further, and she missed the opportunity to see her family one last time. Without looking back, everyone inside the city was heading somewhere. But where can they possibly go? The whole block was surrounded by armed guards; any fleeing effort was useless. It looks like there was a breakout of a deadly virus spread through skin contact! The family of the woman was one of the infected; thus, the guard is here for them.
At first, people thought it was just a normal cold virus, but it eventually grew into a deadly pandemic. Pressured by the exponentially increasing number of mortalities, the government is forced to impose social restrictions and forced isolation. According to the new policy, people in the affected area are jailed in separate cells, waiting for a cure. Each treatment plan costs a million, and obviously, it was out of the range of ordinary workers. Opposite to them, upperclassmen bribe the government’s officers and stay in their private ocean view penthouse, worrying about nothing but whether to eat steak or lobster for dinner. Only when facing this great disaster are the advantages of power and wealth displayed clearly.
In those refugee rooms, a wheat liquid was provided as their main food supply. “In this type of scenario, you are lucky to have something to eat,” said Jeff, the head of the agriculture department, who was in charge of controlling the food supply. While saying so, some people spotted him and his cohort leisurely enjoying a fancy piece of steak, despite the number of people who starved to death. News slowly spread among other survivors, raising their hatred for the monopolies. Besides that, there is also some gossip about these diseases as a political device for individuals to make a profit by selling the cure. The relationship between the securities and citizens is no better. With the ultimate goal of “country wellbeing,” specialized officers are given the mission to kidnap people who are potentially infected from their homes. Strangers who introduce themselves as the government enforcer have gained the right to break into a private house to tear out families, and pass up any moral standard.
People of different origins are grouped in a small room and treated like prisoners. Some choose to stay quiet, hoping that the situation will ease and they will be free one day, but some aren’t that optimistic and choose violence. Among the diverse group, in room number 9, there was a strange but familiar person wearing a rose shirt, who looked luxurious but more like a beloved mother, a dominant individual carrying the special charisma. At the second glance, her cool, soulless eyes are staring at the wall, her hair is messy, every appearance speaks, everything was taken from her. During the lunch hours, she seized the key from the unconscious guard, planning to take blood revenge on those corrupt politicians.
Later on that night, a riot broke out. The women in red and 10 more people break into the main office, demanding food and equality. In the low light of the dinner table, Jeff was lying on the table, but something was missing; the impure part was removed. The room was decorated to imitate the royal dinner practice with an excessive amount of plates and food. There were 12 seats around the round table. 11 people who just arrived, plus a tall, skinny-looking individual standing like he was waiting for the group. Everyone is then seated, but no one says a word. They hastily devoured every dish on the table without looking at what they were eating. A weak, helpless voice whimpered: “Oh lord, I’ve had enough of these people out here,” but then slowly vanished with the food on the table.

I love how you wrote this, it really shows what harsh reality can be like.

I like the way you make the story look intense. The chaos and contrast between people in the setting are impressive to me.
