“We’ve never done anything together that I’ve actually cared about.”
A faint yet powerful sound emanated from the radio, causing the lieutenant to shiver.
“Finally! We succeeded! Hew…no more worries!” Feel relieved, the lieutenant said after having been seated next to the radio, waiting hour after hour, listening to any sounds in that room with the audio monitors they had already placed inside. “That’s so clever of you! How did you come up with this monitoring idea? I have never expected him to be a two-faced person–acting one way before us, and another behind us! I always thought that he truly loved his wife!”
“Thanks for the compliment, Sir! You know that I used to be one of his personal guards, right? He had always been returning late, and that’s what makes it somewhat suspicious. What’s more, every time he returns, he will bring back a smell of…”
“Okay, okay, let’s stop right there. That’s all I need to know. Don’t forget we are here to listen! Anyway, we got something that he doesn’t want others to know about. That mistake in the laboratory could now be sealed away before anyone knows.”
“Sir, did we miss anything just now? Why is there no sound anymore? Are the monitors broken or did he notice something?”
“What about if he found us? Ha, that can’t be the case. Didn’t you place it in a very secret place? Then he by no means will notice it. By the way, these monitors are some of the newest types I got from the warehouse from a person I know, far better than those you could get anywhere else!”
Bzzz…zzz
“It’s definitely Broken!”
“No it’s not, not like what you have thought!”
Peng! quickly followed by another muffled thud.
The lieutenant’s body froze as he felt like a shock passed through his head, just like he could feel the person falling to the ground.
The rooms quickly fall into silence.
Some 30 seconds passed, but to the people in the room, it was like some 30 years have passed.
“Did he just fired a weapon?!”
“Attention! The monitors set A 01 and 07 have been turned off!”
“Switch to the CCTVs in the hallway! Now!” The lieutenant commanded after realizing something.
Ting!
The elevator door opened just when the CCTVs started working. The hallway was engulfed in darkness.
“I can see nothing. Why doesn’t CCTV have night vision!” The lieutenant yelled.
“Because the building we are in was already in storage since two weeks ago, you don’t know that because you just came back after a month of vacation in that place, right?” His assistant said in a peaceful tone.
“Yes, but why do you ask that? Don’t you already know that? You have been working with me for years!”
“It’s no big deal, let’s check what’s in the dark, shall we?” His assistant continued, stood up, and walked to the door. The door opened.
A person holding a gun in the dark, and his assistant standing under the light.
“Well, since it’s the last few minutes, I will tell you that since I started being your assistant, we have done nothing together that I actually cared about. The reason your leader was assassinated just now is solely because he knew about that thing in the laboratory, not because of whatever he is accused of that he never did.” His assistant stopped for a few seconds.
“And now, I have informed you of the situation, so let’s let that laboratory thing go to an end!” His assistant said, while raising his arm, pointing the gun toward the lieutenant.
