“Go ahead and walk normally. You can just walk like a normal person…” I told my bestfriend that after he had finally had knee surgery. His whole life he had been unable to walk due to a genetic knee issue called osteoarthritis. Ever since he was a toddler he had to limp around using crutches, a cane, or in severe cases a wheelchair. My friend and I could never do any sports or physical activity together. We would always just play cards or watch movies. On his 15th birthday a new study found out that a new type of surgery would be able to fix osteoarthritis in the knees. My friend eagerly got the surgery shortly after his birthday. The Dr. performed the surgery flawlessly and in 3 short weeks I told him “Go ahead and walk normally. You can just walk like a normal person.” Finally, me and my lifelong best friend could go on beach walks, play golf, and even go for runs. It was so great to see him be able to take his golden retriever on walks. My friend became so much happier over the next few months.
