“You’re going to need these. You know you will!” hollered my best friend across the section of the store separating us. I came to a screeching halt and slowly began to turn around preparing for the absolute worst. Immediately I knew as the people passing by in Walmart slowed down to stare in the direction of my friend, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of my life. I gripped the handles of the shopping basket tightly as I finally made eye contact with my friend. When I could bring myself to see what she was holding up in the air I froze. I knew I needed to do something, anything before she came over here and people started to realize she was talking to me. I should just walk away calmly before she comes over or maybe I can run. If I run then people will definitely know it’s me. If I keep standing here frozen like an idiot then people will also know it’s me. People started to move on and I wasn’t about to let this nightmare go on any longer. I found the will to move my legs from their frozen spot. Once I started I just kept moving trying to put distance between her and I. Forcing myself to not turn around to see if she was following. I ditched my shopping basket beside the baked goods and locked eyes on the exit. My body went on overdrive as I somehow managed to exit the store. Without a second to waste I began pressing the lock button on the car key until I could hear my car. As I got in my car I let out a breath of relief I didn’t realize I had been holding. Finally I knew I was in the clear. My head was resting on the steering wheel while my mind was trying to forget everything that just happened when the passenger door opened. My friend got in and said, “So you didn’t need the adult diapers?”
